Thomas M. Carroll

Thomas M. Carroll, age 58, a life-long resident of Wilmington, passed away on January 19th, at the Lahey Medical Center. Born in Lowell on April 2nd, 1960, Tom grew up in a large family in Wilmington, he attended Wilmington Public Schools and was a graduate of Wilmington High School, Class of 1979.

Following high school, Tom enlisted in the United States Army, serving his country for 4 years. He was very proud of his service to the military and of the time he spent in Colorado and Korea with the Army.

Tom was a past Commander of the Wilmington American Legion Post 136 and a member of the Tewksbury/Wilmington Elks Lodge.

Tom was a huge local sports fan, especially of Wilmington High School Football. Tom spent four years playing for the Wildcats, serving as team captain in 1978. He enjoyed watching the team play every season, especially on Thanksgiving when taking on the rival Tewksbury Redmen.

Tom was a good uncle, he enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephews. He was also a very loyal and generous friend who will be sorely missed.

Tom was the beloved son of Patricia (Lee) O’Brien of Wilmington. He was the dear brother of William Carroll & his wife Kim of NH, Donna Bourassa & her late husband Wilfred of York, ME, John Carroll & his wife Amy, Maureen Carr & her husband Nolan, Patty McAndrew & her husband John and James O’Brien all of Wilmington, and the late Colleen O’Brien. Tom is also survived by his aunt, Mary Costello of Wilmington, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and close friends.

Family and friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62) Wilmington, on Thursday, January 24th at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Dorothy’s Church, Main St. (Rte. 38), Wilmington at 10:00 a.m. Interment with military honors will take place in Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington. Visiting Hours will be held at the Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 23rd from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Tom proudly served in the US Army.

    It was so sad to hear of Tommy’s death. Though it’s been quite a few years since we’ve seen each other, I think of the many great times we shared back in the day. Tommy had such a quirky sense of humor , he often caught me off guard. He was one of those guys who could tell a joke and keep a straight face. We had great fun at the VFW! My thoughts are with his family at this very sad time

    I just saw this posted on Facebook. So sorry to hear this. I was a football captain with Tom in 1978. He was an inspiration to me and anyone who new him. I pray that God watches over Tom in eternity as he has watched over so many in this life!
