Walter J. Dalton

November 11th, 2021

Walter J. Dalton, age 90, a long-time resident of Wilmington, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on November 9, 2021.

Walter was born in Everett, MA, on April 12,1931; he was the dear son of the late Arthur and Helen (Thayer) Dalton. Walter started his life in Everett before moving with his family to North Reading when he was a young boy. Walter attended North Reading Schools and left high school in the ninth grade to go to work to help support his family.

Walter married his sweetheart Joyce Eaton on September 14, 1952; the couple settled in Wilmington where they raised their beautiful family. Walter was a very devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather; he worked hard to provide for his family and enjoyed the time they spent together.

Walter was also very giving of his time and talents; he was a long-time member of the Independent Order of Oddfellows and a very active member of the Boy Scouts of America and a Scout Leader for many years. Walter was always volunteering to help his community, the Scouts or anyone else who needed a hand.

Walter had a great work ethic; for more than 50 years he was employed as a machinist for the Specialty Automatic Machine Corporation. Walter was very conscientious, reliable and willing to help his fellow co-workers; all attributes that made him a great employee.

In his spare time, Walter enjoyed traveling all over with his family and friends; he loved seeing new places and meeting new people. Walter also had a passion for wood working and a genuine talent; Walter made countless trellises, yard decorations, knick knacks and wheelbarrows, that he gifted to family, friends and strangers throughout the years.

Walter will be fondly remembered as a “good guy”, he had a great sense of humor and good “one liners”, he went out of his way to help people, and he loved his family with all his heart. He will forever be missed.
