William Somerville McNee

William Somerville McNee, age 82, a long-time resident of Wilmington, died peacefully on April 3, 2012, at Woodbriar of Wilmington, following a brave battle with cancer.

Bill was born on September 4, 1929, in Somerville, MA, he was the cherished son of the late William and Agnes (Mann) McNee.. William was raised and educated in Somerville, following graduation, Bill enlisted in the United States Army on August 12, 1948.

Bill served overseas and in 1951 while stationed in Germany, he re-enlisted serving an additional four years. Bill served as a Sergeant in several organizations including the 2nd Battalion and the 14th Armored Calvary, he received many commendations for his service and was honorably discharged on August 11, 1954.

While serving in Germany, Bill met the love of his life, his beautiful wife Charlotte “Lottie” Heinisch, the couple married on March 13, 1952, and just celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary.

Bill and Lottie returned to the United States following his discharge, they lived in Wilmington for many years before retiring to Florida where they resided for over 21 years. As Bill’s health declined the couple returned to Wilmington several years ago to be closer to their family.

Prior to retiring, Bill worked hard as a truck driver for the Boss Linco Trucking Company.

In his spare time, Bill enjoyed reading the newspaper from cover to cover and watching the news on T. V., he loved to be “well read” and stay up on all current events around the world.

Bill was also a sports fan who followed boxing and football, he took in many games over the years with his family and friends.

Bill will be remembered for his strength, he fought cancer for several years and never giving up, he was a hard worker and a devoted family man who will be greatly missed.

Bill was the beloved husband of Charlotte “Lottie” (Heinisch) McNee, dear father of Robert McNee of Bradford, David McNee & his wife Tina of Wilmington, and the late William McNee, loving “Opa” of Ryan, Brenda, Doran, Olivia, Bobby, David Jr., and Devin McNee, as well as several great-grandchildren, brother of the late Betty McNee and Anne Caswell, Bill is also survived by his cousin and best friend Matthew “Mickey” Guy.

Family and friends will gather for a Funeral Service at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington on Saturday, April 7th at 11:00 a.m. Interment Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington. Visiting hours will be held on Friday, April 6th from 5-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bill’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
