Dennis F. Murphy, “Denny”, age 74, of Pelham, NH, formerly a long-time resident of Somerville, MA, passed away unexpectedly at home on February 18, 2019.

Denny was born on August 21, 1944, in Cambridge, MA; he was the dear son of the late Dennis and Margaret Murphy. Denny was raised in Inman Square and educated in Somerville, MA.

On July 11, 1964, Denny, married the “love of his life” Carol Ventre; the couple resided in Somerville where they raised five wonderful children. Denny was a doting husband, father and grandfather who would do anything for his family; he loved to make them happy.

Denny was a hard worker, for many years he was a long haul truck driver for Teamsters Local #25 in Charlestown. Denny loved his job and the people he met throughout the years; he had an endearing personality and made friends wherever he went.

In his spare time, Denny enjoyed dancing, listening to music and watching old westerns. He also amassed a large collection of model trucks that he proudly displayed at home.

Denny was a known as a “good guy” who loved to help others and make people happy; he was always there to lend a hand, give a ride or go out of his way to help in any way he could. Denny had a great sense of humor and he enjoyed making people laugh; everyone always had fun when they were around him.

Denny will be fondly remembered for his unconditional love and devotion to his family and friends; he had a heart of gold and will forever be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Denny was the beloved husband of 54 years to Carol (Ventre) Murphy, devoted father of CarolJean Cassidy & husband Scott of Somerville, Kim DiPrizio & husband David of Pelham, NH, Cindy Tyler & husband Tim of Billerica, Laura Ahern & husband Christopher of Wilmington and Dennis “DJ” Murphy & wife Jennifer of Tewksbury. Loving Grandfather of Brittany, Bobby, Jason, Lauren, Matthew, Samantha, Jake, Jessica, Madison, Patrick and Katelyn. Cherished son of the late Dennis and Margaret (Lohnes) Murphy, dear brother of Edmund Murphy & wife Karen of Tewksbury, Margaret Egan & late husband Edward of Somerville, Marlene Cuthbertson & husband Lee of Sanbornton, NH, Donald Murphy & wife Donna of Groveland and Brien Murphy & Kathie O’Leary of Somerville. Denny is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, MA on Saturday, February 23rd at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 126 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington, MA at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Gibson Cemetery, Pelham, NH. Visiting Hours will be held at the Funeral Home on Friday, February 22nd from 4:00-8:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Dennis’ memory may be made to the Joslin Diabetes Center, One Joslin Place, Boston, MA 02215.
