Doreen O’Brien

Doreen O’Brien (McLaughlin), age 65, a long-time resident of Wilmington, passed away unexpectedly at home on May 23, 2019.

Doreen was born on July 31, 1953, in Boston, MA; she was the dear daughter of the late John and Dorothy (Phelen) McLaughlin. Doreen grew up in Dorchester and was a graduate of Roslindale High School. Following graduation, Doreen, attended Suffolk University and earned an additional degree from Middlesex Community College.

Doreen moved to Wilmington over 40 years ago where she raised her children. She was a very devoted and loving mother who was always there to support her family.

In her spare time, Doreen, enjoyed gardening, collecting her wind chimes, playing her games, watching movies and heading of to the casino with her sister just to “try her luck”. She was very crafty and known for her artistic prowess.

Doreen was an avid animal lover and she leaves behind her beloved yorkie Benji (poops) O’Brien.

Doreen was the beloved mother of Kerie O’Brien of Houston, TX, Michael O’Brien and his wife Julia and Matthew O’Brien all of Wilmington. Loving “Grandma” of Michael O’Brien. Dear sister of Paula Redmond and her husband David of Fort Myers, FL, Geraldine Egan and her husband James of Framingham and John McLaughlin and his wife Diane of Myrtle Beach, SC. Doreen is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will gather for a Service at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, on Friday, May 31st at 11:00 a.m. Visiting Hours will be held at the Funeral Home on Thursday, May 30th from 4:00-8:00 p.m.

    The loss of your mom is a shock and it hurts. I am so sorry for the three of you as it happened too soon and with no notice. I have many memories of Doreen over the years. I can still hear her laugh and see her beautiful smile.

    I was so shocked and saddened to hear if Doreen’s passing. We didn’t get to see each other to often, but we always had a good laugh or two when we were together. I was a friends with Doreen’s since 1975 it just seems like yesterday.

    I was so deeply pained to hear of your mom’s Passing. She was one of the first people I became friends with when I moved to Wilmington 32 years ago. We remained special friends ever since. She was such a sweet thoughtful person with a big heart whom we would laugh till we cried. She loved her children with all her heart. She will be watching over you kids from above.
