Josephine M. Defino

May 4th, 2021

Josephine M. (Rossetti) Defino, “Josie”, age 96, a long-time resident of Somerville, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2021.

Josie was born on December 7, 1924 in Boston, MA; she was the cherished daughter of the late Louis and Angelina (DeMusis) Rossetti. Josie was raised and educated in Charlestown.
Josie met and married “the love of her life”, Vincent “Vinny” Defino, who happened to live across the street from her. Together they had four daughters and were married for fifty-one years.

Josie loved people; she could and would talk to anyone she met, whether she knew you or not. She had an infectious laugh and would make you feel like one of the family. She was a great cook who could make anything without a recipe to follow. You could never leave her house without having something to eat.

Josie’s family was the most important thing in her life. She loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren most of all. She was loved and will be greatly missed by her family and all who met her.

Josie is the beloved wife of the late Vincent E. Defino, devoted mother of Lorraine Saunders & her late husband Timothy of Billerica, Pauline Hogan of Salem, NH and Michele Buckley & her husband Richard of Wilmington, and the late Deborah Defino, loving “Grandma” of Stacy O’Donnell, Lauren Campagnone, Timothy Saunders, Richard Buckley and Jason Buckley, “Great-Grandma” of Cody O’Donnell and Stephanie Campagnone, dear sister of James Rossetti & his wife Lorraine, Rose Brooks and the late Ralph Rossetti, Mary Rossetti, Mike Rossetti, John Rossetti and Eleanor Bonanno. Josie is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will gather for a Funeral at Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave., (Rte. 62) Wilmington on Friday, May 7th at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 126 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett. Visiting hours will be held at the Funeral Home on Thursday, May 6th from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Due to Covid regulations, masks are required in the Funeral Home and Church.
