tufts-davidDavid W. Tufts, age 69, of Billerica, formerly of Wilmington, died Monday, September 7, 2009, at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington.

Born on January 19, 1940, in Springfield, MA, David was the dear son of the late Willard and Jean (Perry) Tufts. As a young boy David lived in Springfield and then moved with his family to Wilmington at the age of six. Following high school, David was employed as a maintenance mechanic for several chemical companies, he finished his career with Olin Chemical in Wilmington.

He married Mary Ann McCormick on June 4, 1960 and together they raised their four children in Wilmington. Dave and Mary moved to Seabrook, NH, in the early 90’s and then spent 10 years in Exeter, NH before they moved back to Billerica 5 years ago to be closer to their children and grandchildren. In his spare time David enjoyed boating, motorcycles, camping, and especially hiking, he was known for tackling Mount Washington a couple of times. He will be remembered by his family and friends as a quiet guy who enjoyed nature, had a love for animals, and was devoted to his family.

David was the beloved husband of 49 years to Mary Ann (McCormick) Tufts, devoted father of Deborah Walsh & her husband Tom of Wilmington, Sherry Kerrigan & her husband Dan of Billerica, Kimberly Sweeney & her husband Brian of Pittsfield, and Stephen Tufts & his wife Rene of Reading, loving grandfather of Ryan, Christopher, Stephanie, Nicole, Justin, Lindsay, Stephen, Skylar, Cameron, and the late Zachary, step-son of Lottie Tufts of Springfield, cherished brother of Kenny Perry of Wilmington, Sandy Harnum of East Longmeadow, and Barbara Lewicki of West Springfield, cousin of Bobby Tufts of New Jersey, David is also survived by many nieces & nephews.

His Funeral Service will be held at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington on Saturday, September 12th at 11:30 a.m. Interment will take place in the family lot at Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington. Visiting hours Friday, September 11th from 4- 8 p.m.

Memorial donations in David’s name may be made to Lahey Clinic Cardiology Research Fund, 41 Mall Road, Burlington, MA 01805.
