Alice O'Brien Obituary

Alice I. O'Brien (White), age 81, a long-time resident of Wilmington, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on April 20, 2024.

Alice was born at home in Wilmington, MA, on November 8, 1942; she was a "die hard" Wilmington resident who loved being raised on Kiernan Ave. and being educated in "her community".  She made many life-long friends in Wilmington and was a proud graduate of Wilmington High School, Class of 1960 with Honors.

Alice married "her love" Cornelius "Mannie" O'Brien on December 9, 1962; they continued tradition and made their own home on Kiernan Ave. where she resided for over 56 years and raised a beautiful family.

"Family, Home, and Faith!" that was Alice's motto and that is the way she lived her life.  She was a devoted wife, mother, and Grammy who showered her family with unconditional love and devotion.  Alice looked forward to attending countless school, sporting events, activities, or whatever her children and grandchildren were involved in. She was always there to cheer them on and was undoubtedly their biggest fan.  Sunday family time, including drives (especially to Vermont), dinners in the North End, and weekends at the lake, created some of the greatest memories.  Alice looked forward to the time she spent enjoying the company and conversation with her family, friends, and neighbors; she was a true friend and a great mentor to so many.

Alice worked hard throughout her life; for many years she worked as a bank teller for Northern Bank and Trust where she made many great friends with her co-workers.  Alice's endearing personality, vast knowledge of her job, her quick wit, and great people skills made her a valued employee throughout the years.  Alice was also instrumental in helping her husband to run his cab business; she was kind and courteous to every customer.

In her spare time, Alice enjoyed reading a good book or her competitive side would come out as she played a great game of cards.  She looked forward to her days at the beach where she could partake in her favorites, lobster, fried clams and fried dough!

Alice will be fondly remembered for her unwavering support of charitable organizations including cancer, heart, diabetes, St. Jude and for our Veterans.  She was a woman of great faith and an active communicant of St. Thomas of Villanova Church in Wilmington for many years.  Alice was so kind towards everyone and she expressed her love through the writing and sending of her heart felt cards that she sent for all occasions to all that she loved and cared for.  Alice was quite a lady; she had a heart of gold and a beautiful smile.  She will forever live on in the hearts and minds of those she loved.

Alice was the beloved wife of the late Cornelius "Mannie" O'Brien, devoted mother of Kathleen M. O'Brien of Sarasota, FL, Donna M. Marken and her husband Gregory of Hampton, NH, and Michael J. O'Brien and his partner Jill Sullivan of Derry, NH.  Loving "Grammy" of Alexander G. Marken, Wyatt W. O'Brien, and Garrett C. O'Brien.  Alice was the daughter of the late Mary G. and Laurence White, dear sister of the late Mary Garofalo, Miriam Joan Kuhne, Lawrence White Jr., Barbara Loberg, and Larry White.  Sister-in-law of Hazel O'Brien of Wilmington, Ann O'Brien of Tewksbury, the late Phyllis Flaherty, James O'Brien, and Gerald "Jeff" O'Brien.  Alice is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, MA, on Friday, April 26th at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Thomas Church, 126 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington, MA, at 10:00 a.m.  Interment Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington, MA.  Visiting Hours will be held at the Funeral Home on Thursday, April 25th from 4:00-7:00 p.m.
