Obituary

John H. Briand, Jr., age 65, of Richmond, ME, formerly of Wilmington and East Boston, died Tuesday, March 17, 2009, at the Togus VA Medical Center in Augusta, Maine, following a lengthy illness.

Born on October 11, 1943, in Stoneham, MA, John was son of the late John H., Sr. & Rita (Cashman) Briand. John grew up in East Boston and was educated there.

Following High School, he enlisted in the United States Army, serving the country during the Vietnam War from 1961 until 1967. John moved to Wilmington and resided there for over 20 years before he retired to Richmond, Maine in 1990. Prior to retirement, John was employed as a Pile Driver for the Brotherhood of Carpenters & Joiners Union Local #56 in Boston for many years.

In his spare time John enjoyed fishing, boating, and hunting, he was also a member of the Fr. Croke Council Knights of Columbus in Wilmington.

John was the devoted father of Laura & Tom Dugger of Phoenix, AZ, Michael Golini & his wife Susan of Tewksbury, Stephanie Golini & her husband Richard Feeney of Wilmington, and John Briand & his wife Nicole of Richmond, ME., loving grandfather of Nicole Feeney, Michael, Haley, & Kelly Golini, Kara Briand, and Ashley & Lily Dugger, dear brother of Thomas Brian & his wife Patricia, Jane English & her husband Kenneth, and the late William “Billy” Briand all of East Boston, also survived by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces & great-nephews.

Family & friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, on Friday, March 20th at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Thomas Church, 126 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington at 10:00 a.m. Interment Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett. Visiting hours Thursday, March 19th from 4-8 p.m.
