Carlos Manuel Perez, age 84, formerly of East Boston, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2023, at the Blaire House in Tewksbury.
Carlos was born on December 19, 1938, in San Jose, Costa Rica. He was the dear son of the late Jesus and Rosario (Lopez) Perez. Carlos was raised and educated in Costa Rica. He enjoyed playing sports while growing up, especially soccer---a game he loved throughout his life.
Carlos moved to the United States as a young adult and lived in several states for a brief period of time. He later settled in Boston, MA, where he met his future wife, Signe Castro. Carlos and Signe married on May 27, 1972. They settled in East Boston where they raised two beautiful children, Marcela and Javier. Carlos worked hard to provide for his family; for many years he was part of the janitorial staff at Tufts New England Medical Center in Boston. He was well loved by all who knew him.
In his spare time, Carlos enjoyed watching sports, especially basketball and soccer. He was known as quite a "history and movie buff". His favorite movies to watch were old black and white or action films. Carlos loved to eat and was dubbed a "foodie" by his family. He was always willing to try some new dish or enjoy his favorite home cooked meals.
Carlos was the beloved husband of Signe Castro, devoted father of Marcela McConnell and her husband Henry of Wilmington and Javier Perez and his wife Natalie of Chelmsford. Carlos loved his family, and his world became even brighter when his children had children of their own. He was the loving "Nunu" of Keilah and Aiden McConnell and "Baba" of Leeya, Kaylee, and Mason Perez. Carlos was the dear brother of Alvaro Perez and his wife Victoria-Eugenia, Ligia Lopez, the late Luis Edgar, the late Vinizio, and the late Cecilia all of Costa Rica. He is further survived by his many nieces and nephews, and their families.
Carlos had a kind heart despite his gruff exterior. He will forever be loved and missed by his family and friends.
A Celebration of Life for Carlos will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Carlos' memory to the Lewy Body Dementia Association, 912 Killian Hill Road, SW, Lilburn, GA 30047.
