Carol Thornton Obituary

Mrs. Carol I. (Hachey)Thornton, 64, of Wilmington, died Wednesday, June 6, 2007,at her home following a courageous battle with cancer. Carol was born January 5, 1943, in Somerville, MA, she was the daughter of the late Augustus and Louise (Slack) Hachey. Carol grew up in Somerville and graduated from Somerville High School. She and her husband Tom moved to Wilmington in July of 1973 to raise their three children. Carol was a very devoted mother, a caregiver, teacher, chauffer, a cheering section and a friend to her three children. Prior to retiring about five years ago, Carol worked in the School Cafeteria at both the Shawsheen Elementary and Wildwood Schools for many years. She loved the kids and made many friends with her co-workers and the faculty.

Carol was a member of St. Thomas Church and a good catholic. She had a strong faith that helped her through her illness.

In her spare time she loved to travel and spend time with her family in Florida, she loved to go to Foxwoods, she enjoyed the many family get togethers and special occasions that brought her closer to her family and extended family. Carol loved her more recent role as a grandmother. She enjoyed every moment caring for, visiting, and spoiling her three grandchildren. Carol was truly a remarkable person and she will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Carol was the beloved wife and best friend of Thomas F. Thornton, Jr., devoted mother of Thomas F. Thornton III & his wife Michelle of Chelmsford, Brian D. Thornton & his wife Keri of Revere and Sheila Butler & her husband Daniel of Tewksbury, loving grandmother of Emma & Avery Thornton and Sean Butler, dear sister of George Hachey of Gilford, NH, Anna Webber of Lunenburg, Gloria Russo of Chelmsford, and the late James Hachey, she is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Her Funeral was held from the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave., (Rte. 62), Wilmington on Monday morning at 9:00 followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Thomas Church which was celebrated by Fr. Philip Earley. Interment took place in Wildwood Cemetery. Memorial donations in Carol's name may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
