Charles Fiore Obituary

Mr. Charles R. Fiore, Sr., 83, of Wilmington, died Tuesday, March 6, at the Massachusetts General Hospital. Charles was born January 14, 1924, in Charlestown, MA, he was son of the late Rose (Ruggeiro) and Charles Fiore. Charles grew up in Boston with his mother Rose and his step-father Peter Cogliano and he was educated there. After High School, he served his country during WWII, U. S. Army, where he saw combat in the South Pacific, Philippines, and the Samoan Islands where he fought at Bouganville and received the Bronze Star for his bravery. When Charles returned from the war, he was married in 1950 to Joan E. (Showstead) who passed away in 1981, they lived in Somerville for many years and then moved with their children to Wilmington in 1967, where he resided until his death. Prior to retiring in July of 1979, Charles worked as a Postal Engineer for the Medford Post Office for many years. He was the Past Commander of the Medford V.F.W., a member of the Sons of Italy Grand Lodge of Massachusetts, and a Charter member of the Fr. Croke Council Knights of Columbus in Wilmington. In his spare time Charles loved gardening, carpentry, and the outdoors.

Charles was the beloved husband of the late Joan E. (Showstead), devoted father of Peter J. Fiore & his wife Catherine of Westfield, MA, Lenare M. Sanborn & her husband King of Strafford, NH, Charles R. Fiore, Jr., & his wife Janet M., and Anthony Fiore all of Wilmington, loving grandfather of Michelle & Robert Miele, Liz, Scott, Chas, Jonas, and Jared, great-grandfather of Bobby & Brannon, dear brother of Josie Bernaducci of Cambridge, Rita Genewicz of Wilmington, and the late Kitty Compano and Evelyn Duval.

His funeral will be held from the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington on Saturday morning at 9:00 followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Thomas Church at 10:00 a.m. Interment Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington. Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 4-8 p.m.
