Cook, Joan Obituary

Joan E. (Scott) Cook, age 77, of Wilmington, died Saturday, March 21, 2009, at home surrounded by her family, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on January 2, 1932, in Beverly, MA, Joan was the dear daughter of the late Stanley & Lillie (Godsoe) Scott. Joan grew up in Billerica and was a graduate of Billerica High School, where she played basketball. Following High School, Joan attended Secretarial School in Woburn, where she learned book keeping, accounting, and stenography.

Prior to retirement, she was a book keeper for several places including the Town Credit Union. Joan married Robert A. Cook in October of 1956 and they moved to Wilmington in 1960, where she resided until her death.

In her spare time, Joan enjoyed bowling, playing cards, traveling, gardening, and spending as much time with her grandchildren as she could. She thoroughly enjoyed attending their sporting events and school functions.

Joan was the beloved wife of Robert A. Cook, devoted mother of David A. Cook of Lawrence, Diane E. Kelly & her husband Edward and Deborah E. McIsaac & her husband Larry all of Wilmington, loving “Grammy” of Joey Cook, Sandra & Brianne Kelly, Brad, Julie, Robert, & Stephen McIsaac, sister of Howard Scott & his wife Paula of Tewksbury and Edmond Scott & his wife Shirley of Berwick, ME, sister-in-law of Ronald Cook & his wife Jan of Chelmsford, also survived by several nieces & nephews.

Family & friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington on Tuesday, March 24th at 10:00 a.m. followed by a Funeral Service in the Congregational Church of Wilmington, 220 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington at 11:00 am. Visiting hours Monday, March 23rd from 5-8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers donations in Joan's memory may be made to the VNA of Middlesex-East Hospice, 607 North Ave., Suite 17, Wakefield, MA 01880.
