Donald Campbell Obituary

Donald F. Campbell, “Don”, age 77, a long-time resident of Wilmington, passed away on December 9, 2022, following a brief illness. 

Don was born on July 5, 1945, in Boston, MA; he was the son of the late Cyril and Mary U. (Trainor) Campbell. Don grew up in Dorchester and graduated from Dorchester High School. 

Following graduation, Don enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1964.  He served for two years before being recalled to active duty on March 28, 1966.  Don served overseas for two years before being honorably discharged on March 22, 1968. 

Don married his wife, Elizabeth “Betty” (Ballotta) Campbell in 1966; they lived in Somerville for many years where they raised their three children, Don, Jr., Scott, and Christine.  Don and Betty shared over fifty-six years of wonderful memories together. 

In 2003, Don and Betty moved to Wilmington, where they continued to build their beautiful family, including their children, their daughters-in-law and son-in-law, and their seven grandchildren.  The family looked forward to getting together for birthday parties and holidays, and it was always a great time. 

Don will be remembered for his love of his family and his country, and the local sports teams.  He was proud of his military service and had great respect for others who served. 

Don was the beloved husband of Elizabeth “Betty” Campbell, devoted father of Donald F. Campbell, Jr. & his wife Lisa of Burlington, Scott R. Campbell & his wife Jeanie of Wilmington and Christine Burba & her husband Jason of Littleton, loving “Grandpa” of Marin, Nicholas, Erin, Matthew, Julia, Isabella, and Gianna, dear brother of Ronald Campbell of Taunton and the late Carole Calla.  Don is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews, and grand nieces and grand nephews. 

Family and friends will gather for a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 126 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington on Saturday, December 17that 11:30 a.m. followed by Military Honors outside the church. 

Memorial donations in Don’s name may be made to a favorite of his, Shriners Hospital for Children, 51 Blossom Street, Boston, MA  02114.  Please omit flowers.
