Donald Churchill Obituary

Donald B. Churchill, “Don”, age 94, a long-time resident of Wilmington, passed away on March 23, 2024.

Don was born on September 11, 1929, in Chelsea, MA; he was the son of the late Samuel P. and Ethel Mae (Garland) Churchill.  Don was raised in Chelsea and graduated from Chelsea High School.

Following high school, Don enlisted in the U.S. Army on April 19, 1951.  He proudly served during the Korean Conflict for two years.  Don was honorably discharged on April 18, 1953, and returned home to his family.

Don met his beloved wife, Flora L. (Marshall) Churchill through mutual friends; they got married and lived in Everett for a few years before settling in Wilmington.  Don and Flora purchased their family home on Lawrence Court in 1959, where they raised their two boys, Don, Jr., and David.  Don and Flora lived in their home for over sixty years and made many wonderful memories with their family and friends.

Don worked as a supervisor for Boston Edison for thirty-nine years.

Don and Flora were devoted members of the Wilmington United Methodist Church.  Don served as the church sexton, as well as several committees for church functions and special events.  Don donated a sound system to the church and was there each week to operate the system for the Sunday service.

Don was very involved in his community; in his younger years, he belonged to the Robert Lash Lodge A.F. & A.M. in Chelsea.  After moving to Wilmington, he joined the Friendship Lodge A.F. & A.M., where he belonged for over sixty years.  Don enjoyed the friendships he made at the lodge and was proud of the volunteer work the Masons did around the community.

In his spare time, Don enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his wife, “Floey” as he called her.  They spent many years traveling the U.S. and saw most of the 50 states. Don also loved to tinker around his house and could fix mostly anything.

Don will be remembered as a quiet gentleman; he was kind to everyone he met and made them feel comfortable in his presence.  He will be missed by his family and friends.

Don was the beloved husband of 70 years of the late Flora L. (Marshall) Churchill, devoted father of Donald B. Churchill, Jr. & his wife Gayle of Alton Bay, NH, and David W. Churchill of Windham, NH, loving “Grandpa” of Matthew Churchill & partner Maddie Dalgliesh, Kelsey Churchill, Jonathan Churchill & his wife Ioana, Amy Webb & her husband John, and Jeffrey Churchill & his wife Meagan, “Great-Grandpa” of Nolan and Scarlett, dear brother of Lloyd Churchill, M. Diane Maria of Revere, the late Elizabeth Sheehan & her husband Dan of Malden, the late Jean Smith, the late Richard Churchill, and the late Eleanor McMurrer.  Don is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
