Duggan, Judith Obituary

Judith D. (Creamer) Duggan, age 66, of Wilmington, died at home surrounded by her family on Sunday, December 21, 2008, after a strong and courageous battle with cancer for six years.

Judy was born on July 7, 1942, in Medford, MA, she was the daughter of the late Francis & Dorothy (Whitmore) Creamer. She was a life-long resident of Wilmington and a graduate of Wilmington High School Class of 1960. Prior to retiring, Judy was a secretary at the BASF Chemical Company in Bedford for many years.

Judy was a woman of endless energy and she liked to make the most of everyday. She had a talent for quilting, sewing, crafting, and baking, her sugar cookies were famous amongst family, friends, and neighbors. She was an avid gardener who produced beautiful flowers and vegetables which she shared with others. Judy loved animals and she genuinely concerned herself with their welfare. Judy also had a thirst for knowledge and was an avid reader on many subjects and was a political “junkie”. If she took an interest in something she did it well and whole heartedly, never settling for less. Judy was very involved in community activities, al ways lending others a hand, and volunteering. She would make tapes on books for the blind and spend endless hours reading to them as well, she also volunteered at a head start program in Woburn for several years.

Judy was very sentimental, at home she surrounded herself with her “stuff”, each piece having special meaning to her. She was a devoted friend who would drop everything and go out of her way to help anyone in need, even if it meant just to lend an ear to listen.

She was a true New Englander who enjoyed all four seasons and each and every holiday was made special by her, whether it was making Halloween costumes for her grandsons or providing “over the top” Christmases for her family and friends; Judy loved every minute of it.

Judy loved to travel to her home in Maine and go on special trips with her husband and her family. Judy was most devoted to her two grandsons Jimmy and Brian, she spent every moment she could with them and they in turn gave her a reason and extra courage to fight her disease for so long. She introduced them to many activities and special trips in and around Boston. They enjoyed frog and snake catching at Walden Pond as well as sitting on her kitchen or living room floors just to play. Judy cherished every memory they made together.

When Judy was diagnosed six years ago with cancer, she handled her diagnosis with courage and grace as she had always handled her life. She pulled together the willpower and strength to fight her disease as long and hard as she could. She never gave up and she tried every possible avenue to find a cure. She would never want to bother others so she mustered the strength to drive herself to chemotherapy and radiation and she never complained.

Judy was truly one of those people that others were drawn to, she was always positive and pleasant and worried about others. She was truly a selfless individual and she will be missed by all who had the pleasure to know her.

Judy was the beloved wife of Joseph T. Duggan, with whom she celebrated 48 years of marriage this past October 12th, the loving mother of Lori Bruce & her husband Jim of Tewksbury and Joseph F. Duggan & his wife Carla of Wilmington, devoted “grammy” of Jimmy Bruce and devoted “grandma” of Brian Duggan, special sister of Roger F. Creamer of Wilmington. Judy is also survived by many brothers & sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, & good friends.

Family & friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington on Saturday, December 27th at 12:00 noon for a Funeral Service to celebrate Judy's life. Visiting hours will be on Friday, December 26th from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m.
