Obituary

Edith M. (Corwell) Dahl, 82, of Wilmington, died Wednesday, March 14, at the Melrose Wakefield Hospital following a brief illness.

Edith was born November 19, 1924, in Stow, MA, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Emma (Urgaitis) Cornwell. Edith grew up in Stow and Maynard, where she worked her family farm. She graduated Hale High School in Stow, MA, class of 1943. During WWII she attended Faulkner Hospital Nursing School in Boston, where she received her degree in 1947. Early in her nursing career, Edith worked in the several Boston Hospitals, she also worked in the Melrose Wakefield Hospital in Melrose, the New England Sands Hospital in Stoneham, and also at the John T. Berry Rehabilitation Hospital in North Reading for over 20 years before retiring in the late 1980’s. Edith married George G. Dahl in 1948 and they were married for 53 wonderful years before his passing in 2001. Edith resided in the same house in Wilmington for almost 60 years. Edith was very active, she did lots of volunteering for several organizations including the Wilmington Senior Center and the Meals on Wheels Program. She was a member of the Wilmington Senior Center, International Order of Vikings, and the African Violet Society of America. In her spare time Edith loved to cross stitch, garden at home where she created beautiful flower gardens and her rose gardens were impressive, she liked to bird watch, and she loved to travel with family and friends. Edith was always kind to those around her and she would do anything for her family and friends who will miss her dearly.

Edith was the beloved wife of the late George G. Dahl, devoted mother of Elaine Goodwin & her husband James of North Reading, George Dahl & his wife Dana of Pelham, NH, and Wanda Catalano & her husband Robert of Seabrook, NH, daughter of the late Raymond & Emma Cornwell, loving grandmother of 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, cousin of William Wickey of New Jersey and Frederick Wright of California.

Her funeral service was held at Faith Lutheran Church, 360 S. Main St., Andover, MA, on Saturday, March 17, at 11:00 a.m. Interment took place in Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers donation's in Edith's name may be made to Hallmark Health Hospice, 100 Hospital Road, Malden, MA 02148.
