Edward Ward Obituary

Edward F. Ward, “Ed or Eddie”, age 69, a long-time resident of Wilmington, MA, passed away unexpectedly on March 4, 2024.

Born in Bethesda Naval Hospital in Maryland on June 29, 1954; he was the cherished son of Priscilla R. (Palmer) Ward and the late Fredrick H. Ward of Wilmington, MA.

He attended Wilmington Public Schools and was a graduate of Wilmington High School with the Class of 1972. Ed loved to box and boxed for the Golden Gloves. After graduating from High School, he owned and operated Ward Fence. He went on to drive his own tractor trailer and eventually drove for Fanny Farmer (he loved his chocolate). In later years, Ed worked for Union Local #88 as a welder (The Big Dig).

Ed could pretty much do anything he set out to do. He would be seen working on cars in his garage to make extra cash or help out his friends, building docks around Silver lake and always trying to create a new invention. After 9/11, while his son served in the Army, he constructed the famous illuminated flag on Silver Lake. The flag was docked every night in the center of the lake by Ed and sparked much positive attention in town, as a staple to see when driving by at night.

Ed loved to joke around a lot, trying to get a rise out of people. He treasured his lake, boating, fishing, going out on his famous raft and just having a good time. He will be remembered for his love for family, friends, and dogs (bones always available when they visited him in the garage). He traveled a bunch back and forth to Barefoot Bay, Florida, but loved to be in his hometown. He will forever be known to give out a helping hand to anyone, especially his friends.

Ed was one of four siblings that were raised on or around Silver Lake. The dear brother of the late James I. Ward and Meredith Ward of Wilmington; David T. Ward & wife Valerie A. Ward of Wilmington.

Ed was the father of two children, Deana Ward & wife Lynn Shortway of West Islip, NY and Kenneth Ward & wife Nicole Ward of Wilmington. He remained close friends with their mother Mary (Cote) Peters.

A loving grandpa to Jay, Desi, Dylan, and Rylee and loving uncle to James and Delaney. He is further survived by his aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends.

Family and friends will gather for Visitation at Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave., (Rte. 62), Wilmington on Monday, March 11th from 4:00-7:00 p.m.  A Funeral Service will be held at the Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 12th at 11:00 a.m. followed by interment in Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington.
