Flora Churchill Obituary

Flora L. (Marshall) Churchill, age 95, a long-time resident of Wilmington, passed away on January 6, 2024.

Flora was born on September 15, 1928, in Everett, MA and brought up in Malden, MA with her two sisters and brother.

Flora met her beloved husband, Donald, through mutual friends.  After they were married, Flora and Donald lived in Everett, MA, for a few years before settling in Wilmington, where they built a beautiful home and raised two boys. Their love for one another was like one seen in fairytales, spanning for 70 years. Flora and Donald always loved to tease and joke around with one another in the most loving way, and it would make you smile when you heard it. They spent many years traveling the US and saw most of the 52 states. Don was the driver and “Floey,” as he called her, was the GPS, before such a thing as computers.  She was the human GPS and would know most of the major highways down the east coast without needing a map.

Besides being a devout mother, Flora worked at Macys for 26 years in sales. She was an avid Red Sox fan and had to have her printed game schedule next her at all times. She was devoted to her faith and a very active member of the Wilmington United Methodist Church. She was heavily involved with the woman’s circle at the church.

Flora cherished her family and friends; she was truly the “Matriarch” of the Churchill family. Nothing made her happier than making someone’s favorite food or finding the perfect card. If you asked, she would never give out the exact recipe she would say “Oh some of this and a little bit of that”. You never knew. She had a way of making everyone feel so special around holidays and birthdays. Her favorite holiday was Christmas and she always looked forward to getting the family together and truly made it magical for the whole family.

Flora was the beloved wife of Donald B. Churchill of 70 years, devoted mother of Donald B. Churchill, Jr. & his wife Gayle of Alton Bay, NH, and David W. Churchill of Windham, NH, loving “Grandma” of Matthew Churchill & partner Maddie Dalgliesh, Kelsey Churchill, Jonathan Churchill & his wife Ioana, Amy Webb & her husband John, and Jeffrey Churchill & his wife Meagan, “Great-Grandma” of Nolan and Scarlett, cherished daughter of the late Hayward and Florence (Evely) Marshall, dear sister of the late Jeanne Clarke, the late Elva Hopkins & her late husband Eldred, and the late Ralph Marshall. Flora is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
