Dorothy B. (Hathaway) Gardner, age 93, of Wilmington, died Tuesday, July 3, 2007, at the Golden Living Center, in Attleboro, following a brief illness.
Dorothy was born November 3, 1913, in Winchester, MA, she was the daughter of the late Herman and Mary Jane (Corcoran) Hathaway. Dorothy grew up in Wilmington and graduated from Wilmington High School, Class of 1930. She played field hockey at the High School, which was the first women's sports team. Following High School, Dorothy was employed as a bookkeeper for General Foods in Woburn for over 20 years and then at Raffi & Swanson Company in Wilmington for over 20 years. She retired in the mid 1980’s. Dorothy married Thomas W. Gardner in 1945, and they resided in Wilmington on Woburn Street in the home that they built themselves until Thomas passed away in 1995, shortly after they celebrated their 50th Anniversary. In her spare time, Dorothy loved to travel the entire country with her husband in the camper he made. She also loved to spend time with her son, his wife, her grandson, and her many friends. When she was able, Dorothy was an active member of the Church of the Good Shepard in Reading.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Wayne and Stephanie (Brezinski) Gardner of No. Attleboro and her grandson Anton Gardner.
Her Funeral Service was held on Monday, July 9th , 11:00 a.m. at the Church of the Good Shepard, 95 Woburn St., Reading, and was celebrated by Rev. Deborah Woodward. Interment took place in the family lot at Wildwood Cemetery in Wilmington. Visiting hours were held at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington.
