George E. Carter III, 78, of Meersburg, Germany, passed away on July 25, 2023, peacefully at home.
George was born to George and Betty Carter, on May 19, 1945, in Woburn, Massachusetts. He graduated from Hillsboro High School in Oregon and received a degree in Engineering from Oregon State University. During active military service, he served as Captain in the US Air Force and received the Air Force Commendation medal for his work, before leaving the service in 1980.
George is survived by his wife Brunhilde, three children, Darrick, Kerstine, and Ian, and two step-children Sabine Reuss-Carter and Susanne Reuss, and nine grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Janice, Margie, and Betty-Lynn, and was pre-deceased by sister Nancy.
After moving several times between Germany and the U.S., George and his family moved permanently to Germany in 1984 where he lived in Kottgeisering until moving to Meersburg in 2014 to be near his son Ian and his family. He worked as an electrical engineer at Siemens for 30 years, retiring as „Oberingenieur“ in 2010. During his career, he specialized in data networks, and was part of the team to develop the first multiplex modem. He enjoyed good food and wine, especially New England clams and lobsters, and often listened to Boston Red Sox games while in Germany late at night.
Although he lived a long part of his life in Germany, he remained an American at heart and therefore wished to be buried in the US. His family has organized the interment and a memorial service to honor George’s life which will be held at Wildwood Cemetery in Wilmington, MA on August 25, 2023 at 1:00 pm.
