Hugh H. Callahan, Jr.

Hugh “Dick” Callahan, a longtime resident of Wilmington, passed away peacefully surrounded by family who love him on Monday, February 27, 2023, at Lahey Hospital in Burlington.  He was 88 years of age.

Dick was born in Everett on March 20, 1934 to the late Hugh and Helen (Donovan) Callahan. Dick was raised in Malden and graduated from Malden High School.  Dick went on to further his education at Bentley College where he earned his bachelor’s degree.  He moved to Wilmington in 1965 where he and Patricia (Curran) Callahan raised their six children.

Dick was the proud father of Mark Callahan, Brian Callahan and his wife Jacqueline, Kevin Callahan and his wife Barbara, Kathleen Godfrey and her husband Paul, Patrick Callahan and his wife Katharine, all of Wilmington and Michael Callahan and his wife Teresa of Tewksbury.  He was the even prouder Grampa of Patrick and Bridget Callahan, Sean and Kristyn Callahan, Brian and Steven Godfrey, Ryan, Hannah and Emma Callahan, and Marina and Scott Callahan.  Dick was predeceased by his brother John “Jack” Callahan.

Dick’s children and grandchildren greatly admire his decision to donate his body to the Tufts Anatomical Gift Program.  Study of the human body at Tufts University School of Medicine is an important part of medical education and research.  Dick’s generous gift as a donor will be invaluable for anatomical study by students at Tufts University, helping to teach the physicians and health care workers of tomorrow.

At Dick’s request, his services will be private.
