Janis Hall Obituary

Janis E. Hall (Iovanna), age 74 of Stoneham, MA, formerly of Wilmington, MA, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on October 31, 2022.

Janis was born on November 10, 1947; she was the cherished daughter of the late Capitola “Cappy” (Hovey) Iovanna.  Janis grew up in Wilmington on Jones Ave. where she spent countless hours on Silver Lake swimming, ice skating, and hanging out with friends.  Janis attended Mildred Rogers School where she made many life-long friends and shared some great memories.  Janis went on to graduate from Wilmington High School.

In 1966, Janis, married her “high school sweetheart” Albert “Al” Hall; the couple settled in Stoneham where they raised their beautiful daughters and enjoyed being grandparents.  Janis was very devoted to her family; she showered them with unconditional love and was always there to help in any way.  Janis encouraged her children and grandchildren to do their best, she was a mentor and taught by example; she was their “Rock”.  Janis was proud of her family and their accomplishments; especially her grandchildren whom she adored.  Throughout the years, Janis attended countless school or sporting events, dance recitals, graduations, or any other special occasion that included her grandchildren; she was always their biggest cheerleader and loved to celebrate every milestone in their lives.

When her children were school age, Janis decided to go back to school herself and attended Tewksbury Hospital School of Practical Nursing where she graduated in 1980.  Janis started a long and rewarding career in healthcare that spanned more than 40 years beginning at St. John’s Hospital in Lowell where she got much “hands on” experience with patients as well as their families.  Janis had great people skills, a vast knowledge of her profession, and a huge heart; all attributes that made her successful throughout the years.  Janis took care of her patients as well as their families with the utmost care, kindness, patience, respect, and treated them as her own family.  Janis went from a hospital atmosphere into a nursing and rehabilitation setting where she developed a softness for helping the elderly. After Janis retired from floor nursing, she went on to become the director of admissions for several years, but she was always ready and available to help wherever she was needed.

In her spare time, Janis enjoyed following the Red Sox and the Celtics; Larry Bird being her favorite player.  She loved to bowl, play scrabble, she was an avid reader and enjoyed going to Mohegan Sun with family and friends just to “try her luck”. She also enjoyed attending musicals at the theater. And vacationing many summers at York Beach Maine with her children and grandchildren.

Janis will be fondly remembered as a wonderful lady; kind, compassionate, selfless, and very giving.  She helped everyone she could and never expected anything in return.  Janis was a loving mother and Grammy, great nurse, and a true friend to many.  Janis was very proud of the family she raised, and they loved her with all their hearts; she will forever be missed.

Janis was the beloved wife of the late Albert “Al” Hall, devoted mother of Melissa Hall & George Jackson of North Andover, Pam Meuse & husband Steve of Methuen, Sheila Hall of Stoneham and the late Alison O’Neil.  Loving “Grammy” of Amanda, Matt, Clay, Nick, Adam, Samantha, Andrew, Emily, Ben, Caera and “Mimi” of her great-grandchildren Sean Patrick, Adrianna, Savannah, Stetson, Grace, and Greyson.  Dear sister of Bonnie McElhaney & husband Jerry of Tennessee, Sharon Caira & husband Aldo of Wilmington, the late Charlene Brogna and the late William Iovanna.  Janis is also survived by many nieces, nephews and their families.
