Jose "Joe" P. Sousa

Jose P. Sousa, “Joe”, age 87, of Wilmington, formerly of Medford, passed away on July 16, 2022. 

Joe was born on April 27, 1935, in San Miguel, Azores, Portugal; he was the son of the late Manuel and Maria Sousa.  Joe was raised in St. Michael and served in the Portuguese military. 

Joe married Maria “Gloria” (Borges) Sousa on July 23, 1966.  They moved to the U.S. in the late 1960’s and settled in Cambridge.  Joe and Gloria raised their two children Shawn and Natalie in Medford before moving to Wilmington several years ago. 

Joe loved to spend time working in his yard, planting in his garden, and tending to his lawn.  He took great pride in his home and enjoyed spending time with his family.  

Joe was a loving husband, devoted father, and was most proud when he became “Papa Joe” to his four grandchildren: Harper, Mason, Kelsey, and Kyle. 

Joe was the beloved husband of Maria “Gloria” Sousa, devoted father of Shawn Sousa & his wife Vanessa and Natalie Sousa all of Wilmington, loving “Papa Joe” of Harper, Mason, Kelsey and Kyle, dear brother of Elidia Sousa, Mariana Costa, and the late Laudalina Giesta. 

Funeral Services for Joe will be private. 

Memorial donations in Joe’s name may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741.
