Obituary

Joseph Patrick Clifford, "Joe", age 60, of Billerica, formerly of Wilmington, passed away peacefully at home on August 23, 2023, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Joe was born on January 17, 1963, in Winchester, MA; he was the cherished son of the late Eugene and Barbara (Manuel) Clifford and one of 14 siblings.  Joe was raised and educated in Wilmington; following High School he enlisted in the United States Army in 1980.

Joe was assigned to Troop D 5th Cavalry Squadron as a Cavalry Scout; he proudly served the country actively for several years and then continued to served with the Army National Guard.

Joe was a hard worker throughout his life; he took a position at Axis Technologies more than 24 years ago and worked his way up to Lathe Supervisor.  Joe loved his job and the many friends he made at work; Joe considered them his "work family" and they felt the same way about him.

In his spare time, Joe, enjoyed listening to music of all kinds and he had quite a collection of guitars that he loved.  Joe also loved racing his remote cars in the back yard with this friends, clowning around, hanging out and spending time with his family.

Joe will be fondly remembered as a "great guy"; he was kind, caring, funny, and would do anything to help anyone.  Joe will forever live in the hearts of those he touched.

Joe was the beloved companion of Charlene MacInnis of Billerica, devoted father of Lauren, step-father of Brady and Brett, dear brother of Daniel Clifford of Wilmington, Judith Topping & husband Ronald Topping Sr. of Salem, NH, Dorothy Botsch  of Hampton Beach, NH, Theresa Miller & husband John Miller Sr. of Derry, NH, Lawrence Clifford and William Clifford of Billerica, Barbara Clifford of New Hampshire, the late Michael, Mary Ann, Mark, John, Gene, and James Clifford.  Joe was very special to Robert and Jean MacInnis of Billerica and Rob and Kris MacInnis of Lowell and is further survived by his large extended family of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends. 

Family and friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, on Monday, August 28th for Visitation from 12:30 - 2:00 p.m. immediately followed by a Graveside Service with Military Honors in the Veteran's Section of Wildwood Cemetery, 233 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington.
