Joseph P. Giordano, age 72, a long-time resident of Wilmington, formerly of Charlestown, passed away at the Winchester Hospital surrounded by his loving family on August 19, 2023.
Joe was born on November 13, 1950, in Boston, MA; he was the cherished son of the late Carmen T. and Catherine (Donahue) Giordano. Joe was raised and educated in Charlestown.
Following graduation from high school, Joe enlisted in the U.S. Army on June 29, 1970. He served for two years before being transferred to the U.S. Army Reserves and completed his obligation on June 28, 1976. Joe was proud to serve in the military and was very patriotic throughout his life.
Joe met Joanna M. (Ryan) Giordano while they were both living in Charlestown. They dated for a few years before getting married on June 29, 1973; the couple had just recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They lived in the city for several years before settling in Wilmington where they welcomed their two daughters, Nicole, and Danielle.
Joe worked as a mechanic for an HVAC company; he was a hardworking man who was dedicated to his job.
Family was most important to Joe; he was a devoted husband and a loving “Dad.” Joe was so excited to become “Grampy” to Cameron, Evan, and most recently Sutton. He enjoyed spending time with his family during holidays and family gatherings. Joe looked forward to visits from the kids and loved to hear stories about their interests.
Joe was the beloved husband of Joanna M. (Ryan) Giordano, devoted father of Nicole MacMullen & her husband Christopher and Danielle Smith & her husband Derek all of Wilmington, loving “Grampy” of Cameron MacMullen, Evan MacMullen, and Sutton Smith, dear brother of Danny Giordano & his wife Marilyn of Billerica, the late Carmen Giordano & his late wife Carol, the late Steven Giordano & his wife Kathleen, the late Rosemarie Andrea, the late Rita Elmstrom, and the late Peter Giordano & his wife Linda of Malden. Joe is survived by his brother-in-law John Ryan & his wife Jan of Weymouth, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will gather for a Funeral Service at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave., (Rte. 62), Wilmington on Monday, August 28th at 11:00 a.m. followed by Interment with Military Honors in Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington. Visiting hours will be held at the Funeral Home on Sunday, August 27th from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m.
