Joseph Scifo Obituary

Joseph Scifo, age 68, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on October 17, 2022.

Joe was born on April 3, 1954, in Chelsea, MA; he was the cherished son of the late Costanzio "Joe" and Rose (Castellano) Scifo.  Joe lived in East Boston in his early years and moved "up country" to Wilmington at 10 years old.  Joe attended Wilmington Public Schools and was a graduate of Wilmington High School with the Class of 1972, where he made many life-long friends.

Joe married his "high school sweetheart" Linda Lockhart on August 24, 1974, the couple made their home in Wilmington where they raised two great kids.  Joe was a very devoted and loving father; he was involved in everything his children were into and coached soccer, football, baseball and basketball for Joe and Kerri's teams.  Joe was a great mentor and role model for his children as well as the other kids on his teams.  In his later years, Joe became "Papa" to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom he adored.

Joe looked forward to spending time at Lovell Lake in Wakefield, NH, where they had their family campsite "Almost Heaven".  Joe welcomed family and friends, he loved spending time out on his boat, "Joker", where he taught his grandchildren how to fish and waterski.  Joe also liked to take the grandkids on endless rides on his golf cart just tooling around the campground.  Joe was always a lot of fun, he had a great sense of humor and loved to show everyone a good time.

Joe was also very involved in youth sports within the community; he was one of the members that brought Pop Warner back to Wilmington and continued to coach for many years.  Joe was also instrumental in reviving the "Youth Center" at Villanova Hall and was a constant chaperone on Saturday evenings so that the kids had a safe place to hang out.

Joe was a hard worker; for many years he was a courier for the Federal Express Company in Wilmington.  Joe had a great personality and got along well with his co-workers as well as his customers.

Joe will be fondly remembered as an avid Boston sports fan who enjoyed watching the Red Sox, Celtics and the New England Patriots, as they won many titles throughout the years.

Joe had a huge heart and a fighting spirit; he battled MS head on and always made the best of his situation.  Joe loved his family and friends with all his heart, and he will forever be missed.

Joe was the beloved husband of 48 years to Linda Scifo, devoted father of Joseph Scifo & his wife Celeste and Kerri St. Onge & her husband Doug all of Wilmington.  Loving "Papa" of Rebecca Buono & her husband Mike, Victoria Scifo, Cynthia Scifo, Isabella St. Onge, Dominic St. Onge, and great-grandchildren Adreena, Grayson and Adleigh Buono.  He was a wonderful brother to Vincent Scifo & his wife Linda, Kathleen Solas & her husband James, Patricia Biasella & her husband Armando all of Wilmington, Karen Rondeau & her husband Paul of Salem, NH, and Jennifer Roscigno & her husband Vince of Derry, NH.  Joe is also survived by his four legged friend Tinkerbell Grace, his dearest cousins James and Teresa Castellano of Wilmington, as well as many special nieces, nephews and friends.

Family and friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, MA, on Saturday, October 22nd for Visitation from 10:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. followed by a Service to Celebrate Joe's life at 12:30 p.m.  Interment will take place in Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington, MA.
