Joseph Steen Obituary

Joseph P. Steen, "Joe", age 64, a long-time resident of Wilmington, MA, passed away unexpectedly at home on January 25, 2024.

Joe was born in Brighton, MA, on March 26, 1959; he was the cherished son of Nancy J. (Wrenn) Steen and the late Joseph M. Steen of Wilmington, MA.  Joe was one of seven siblings who were raised in a large, loving family with deep Charlestown roots and unwavering Irish pride.  Joe attended Wilmington Public Schools, played youth sports as well as High School sports, made many life-long friends and was a graduate of Wilmington High School with the Class of 1977.

Joe worked hard throughout his life, first at Fenway Park in Boston where his passion for the Red Sox began.  Following graduation from high school he immediately went to work for the Elevators Construction Union Local #4 in Boston. He had an endearing personality and made lots of good friends with his fellow co-workers.  Joe had just started his paperwork to retire, travel and enjoy life when his untimely death occurred.

Joe was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Fr. Croke Council in Wilmington, the Sons of the American Legion, and St. Anthony's of Woburn.  He enjoyed traveling to the warm weather and loved the beach; he was dubbed the "Mayor of Miami" when he hit the Florida scene and when his travels took him to Punta Cana or Cancun he was known as "Boston Joe".  Joe never met a stranger; you'd be a friend for life.

Joe will be fondly remembered for his unconditional love and devotion to his family, friends, and New England sports teams.  He went out of his way to help anyone and never asked for anything in return.  Joe was very Patriotic and proud to be an American; he never forgot to thank a Veteran.  He would be out and about town with his larger than life personality, his infectious smile, and his signature Scally cap; he was truly "one of a kind".  Joe loved people and they loved him; he will forever live on in the hearts of those he touched.

Joe was the dear brother of Deborah A. Stygles & husband Joe of Tewksbury, Richard R. Steen, Nancy J. Steen & companion Tony Carvalho, Robert C. Steen & wife Terry, and Mary Ellen Steen Deschenes & companion Marc Cierri all of Wilmington, and Karen M. Lucier & husband Ret. Air Force Lt. Col. Michael Lucier of Nebraska.  Joe was the beloved fiancé Joanne Lucas of Wilmington, he was special to her children Samantha, Bradley, Ryan, and Keith Lucas, and adored by her grandchildren Cali, Hailey, Ava, and Aubrey.  He was the loving Uncle of John Shirley & Emily, Danielle Shirley, Leanne Shirley & Joe, Joleen Stygles & Giovanni, Michelle Steen, Debbie Steen, Maryanne Steen, Bailey Steen, Alivia Steen, Lynda Foppiano & Bill, Robert Deering & Alexis, Brian Deering, Daniel Lucier & Christy, Alexander Lucier & Heather, Samuel Lucier, Elizabeth Casey & Christian, Joseph Steen II & Shannon, Michael Steen & Olivia, Owen Steen, Derek Steen & Katie, Christopher Deschenes & Mackenzie, great-uncle of Haley, Philip & Jacob Natale, Daniel Bates, Arianna Kaplan, Nevaeh & Alexis Terceira, , Brody Mastrogiacomo, Olivia & Sophia Deering, Joseph Steen III, Payton & Jocelyn Steen Deschenes, Declan & Damon Steen and Belle Casey.  Joe is further survived by his aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
