Kathleen F. (Loud) Shure, age 73, of Wilmington, formerly of Burlington, passed away on September 6, 2023.
Kathleen was born on December 16, 1949, in Queens, NY; she was the cherished daughter of the late George and Grace (Donato) Loud. Kathleen was raised in Long Island and graduated from East Meadow High School. Following graduation, she enrolled in SUNY New Paltz, earning her associate degree in art.
Kathleen met her husband, Robert E. “Bob” Shure, while they were both teenagers. They dated for four years before marrying on June 20, 1970. Bob’s graduate school brought them to Boston in 1972; Kathleen worked at an insurance company for a few years before attending Northeastern University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing. Kathleen went to work at Mass General Hospital for fourteen years before retiring in 1990. After retiring, Kathleen started her second career as the business manager for Bob’s sculpture studio, Skylight Studios, in Woburn.
Kathleen and Bob settled in Burlington in 1984, where they raised their two children, Dan, and Lisa. They lived in Burlington for 19 years before moving to Wilmington in 2003. Kathleen was a devoted mother; she spent quality time with her children and was always supportive and encouraging of their wide range of interests.
Kathleen was a talented “jack of all trades”; her countless skills were a huge asset to her family’s company. Kathleen not only managed the business, but also used her art skills to contribute to the creation of the sculptures. She also possessed strong writing skills that were useful for presentations and speeches.
Kathleen was very active; she played tennis for many years before trying pickleball. Pickleball was one of her favorite sports; she loved it so much, she decided to share her passion with the town. In 2017, Kathy helped bring pickleball to Palmer Park in Wilmington by offering to instruct beginner and intermediate classes through the town’s Recreation Department.
In her spare time, Kathleen had several hobbies including cooking, baking, crocheting, sewing, sketching, and photography. She enjoyed her many trips to TJ Maxx and loved “classic style.”
Kathleen was a devoted wife and mother; although her greatest joy was becoming a “Nonna” to her granddaughter, Olivia. Kathleen enjoyed every moment she spent with Olivia; they enjoyed arts & crafts, baking, reading books and playing in the backyard.
Kathleen was the beloved wife of 53 years of Robert Shure, devoted mother of Daniel K. Shure & his wife Sarah of Holden, and Lisa R. Benson & her husband Paul of Waltham, loving “Nonna” of Olivia Benson, dear sister of Cara Macinick & her husband James of Sound Beach, NY, aunt of Paul and Howard LaPierre, and was a special daughter-in-law of the late Stanford and Carmela Shure. Kathleen is also survived by many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and friends.
