Kathleen D. Durost Obituary

Kathleen D. Durost (Foster), fondly known as "Kay" to her family and friends, a long-time resident of Wilmington, passed away peacefully on November 10, 2023; she was 95 years old.

Kay was born in Pittsfield, Maine on November 12, 1927; she was the dear daughter of the late Robert and Nellie (Staples) Foster.  Kay was raised and educated in Maine along with her two sisters whom she adored.

Kay married her "sweetheart" Alton "Curly" Durost in 1947; the couple lived in Maine and Woburn for a few years before settling in Wilmington in 1961 where they raised a beautiful family.  Kay showered her family with unconditional love and devotion and her home was always open to family, friends, and neighbors.

Kay looked forward to summers spent at Hampton Beach with her family; in later years she loved spending time in Florida with Curly where they resided for 10 years before moving back to Massachusetts to be closer to family.  Following Curly's passing, Kay and her sister Cheryl became "snowbirds" escaping the cold New England weather for some sun and fun in Florida.

Kay was very active throughout her life; in her younger years she enjoyed listening to Big Bands and hitting the dance floor with Curly, as her family grew she became very active with her children and grandchildren and their many activities, and in her later years she loved to travel to see new places and meet new people.

Kay was very talented when it came to knitting, crocheting and quilting; she made many beautiful gifts for family and friends as well as countless afghans for Veterans at the Chelsea Soldiers Home. Kay was very grateful to the service men and women and she always wanted to show them her appreciation for their service to our country.  In her spare time, Kay enjoyed reading a good book and relaxing at home.

Kay will be fondly remembered for her endearing personality, beautiful smile and huge heart.  She was always on the go with her "can do" attitude and she was a friend to all she met.  Kay touched so many people in her life; her kindness and compassion was evident in everything she did.  Kay will forever be loved and missed by all who knew her.

Kay was the beloved wife of the late Alton "Curly" Durost, devoted mother of  the late Robert "Scooby" Durost and his wife Roberta Ferrari of Billerica, formerly of Wilmington, William Durost and his wife Lucille of Tewksbury, Alton Durost II and his late wife Helen of Jaffrey, NH, Carl Durost and his wife Jeanne of Wilmington, and Kathleen Roberge and her late husband Daniel of Stark, NH, loving "Nana" of Christopher, Heather, James, Kelly, Alton III, Paul, Stacey, Kerry, the late Brian, Jacqueline, Christopher, and Melissa, Great-Nana of many great grandchildren.  Dear sister of the late Gloria "Sis" Ouellette and the late Cheryl DuPlessis.  Kay is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
