Kenneth Stanley Obituary

Kenneth (Ken) Stanley, formerly a long-time resident of Tewksbury MA and Wilmington MA., passed away on January 27, 2024, at the age of 94, after a period of declining health at the Life Care Center of Merrimack Valley in Billerica.

Ken was born in Medford, MA; he was the dear son of the late Tilton and Marjorie (York) Stanley of Wilmington. He spent his childhood growing up in Wilmington and as a teenager he helped his Father with a taxi-cab service until he was of age to join the Army National Guard.

Ken was proud to serve the Country; he loved being part of the Yankee Division Motor Pool. As Corporal (E-4), he was selected as the personal driver for a Brigadier General. After the Guard he worked for the United States Department of Veterans Affairs at the E.N. Rogers Veteran’s Hospital in Bedford where he excelled as an Occupational Therapy Assistant.  Ken enjoyed working with the patients and was instrumental in starting some new programs and was one of the founders of the Garden Club for the Veterans at the hospital. Ken’s kind and caring ways did not stop with the patients, but he also was wonderful with their families as well as his fellow co-workers.  Ken retired after 25 years of dedicated service to the Government and to the Veterans.

It was at the hospital that Ken met a beautiful nurse, Cathy Senneville; it was love at first sight for Ken and he knew she would become his wife. After some serious courting, Ken and Cathy married on January 18, 1964, and had just celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary.

When not working, Ken enjoyed volunteering his time with his wife as leaders for 4-H and Boy Scouts.  He was a member of the Tewksbury Senior’s Golden Age Club and he loved to volunteer his time at the Tewksbury Senior Center.  Ken and Cathy were long-time members of the Wilmington United Methodist Church where they practiced their faith, volunteered at various church outings, and enjoyed socializing with their “church family”.

Ken was beloved by his neighbors who will always remember him as “Mr. Fix It” because he loved helping anyone fix anything.  Ken was also fondly known as the “Pringle Street Snow blowing Man” who was right there to do everyone’s driveways and walkways after a storm. People in Tewksbury will forever remember him for his beautiful garden in his backyard and he loved to give away the vegetables he grew.  To say that Ken was a great neighbor and friend to many was evident in everything he did.

Ken loved drawing, gardening, farming, fishing, and anything outdoors.  He loved to get his hands dirty, breath in the fresh air and enjoy the beauty of nature that surrounded him.

Ken will be fondly remembered as a kind, caring, and generous man.  He loved his family and friends with all his heart, and he will forever be missed by all.

Ken’s family would like to give a special thanks to his caregivers at Life Care for their attention and devotion throughout his years living there.

Ken is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Catherine (Cathy) Stanley, and his Son, Christopher (Chris) Stanley and his late wife Leona O’Brien-Stanley of Chester NH and his daughter, Christina (Tina) Stanley and her Husband Brian Collins of Tewksbury MA.

Ken leaves behind five grandchildren; Linda Stanley, Krystal Stanley, Andrew “AJ” Stanley, Jonathan O’Brien and his wife Kimberley and Amanda O’Brien and five great-grandchildren; Kaleb, Torrie, Zachary, Addaline, and Logan, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, and dear friends.

He was predeceased by his brother Carl Stanley of Chelmsford and sister in-law Frances Senneville of Tewksbury.

Family and friends will gather for Visitation at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, MA, on Sunday, March 3rd from 1:00-2:30 followed by a Service to Celebrate Ken’s life at 2:30.
