Kerr, Dorothy Obituary

Dorothy H. (Holmes) Kerr, age 91, of Wilmington, formerly of Reading, died Wednesday, September 26, 2007 at Woodbriar of Wilmington.

Dorothy was born January 30, 1916 in Buckfield, Maine; she was daughter of the late Earl and Eola B. (Swallow) Holmes. Dorothy grew up in Buckfield and graduated from Buckfield High School at the age of 15. She attended Business School in Lewiston, Maine, which she completed at the age of 17, with an Associates Degree in Business.

Dorothy married Robert S. Kerr, Sr., on July 5, 1936 and they were married for over 45 years until his passing in 1983. They moved their young family to Wilmington in 1952 and lived there until 1959 when they moved to Reading until 1967. They resided in Canton for a few short years and then returned to Wilmington in 1973, where Dorothy remained until her death. Upon returning to Wilmington, Dorothy took a job in the accounting department at Compugraphic in Wilmington and she retired in the early 1980’s. In her spare time Dorothy liked to knit and sew. A very talented seamstress, she took pride in making her own clothing. She was also proud of her ancestry of the Mayflower 10th & 11th; Dorothy was a direct descendent of Abigail Warren and Mary Warren who arrived to America on the Mayflower. Dorothy was also a member of the "Descendents of the Mayflower".

Dorothy is survived by her four sons James Kerr & his wife Barbara of Oriental, NC, John Kerr & his wife Jeanne of Reading, Robert S. Kerr, Jr. of New York and Sidney Kerr of Wilmington, her grandchildren Stuart Kerr of Texas, Sue Ellen Kerr of Connecticut, Michael Kerr of Stow, MA, Matthew Kerr of Wakefield, Jennifer Brickett of Reading, Kevin Kerr of New York, Jeffrey Kerr of Texas, and Glenn Kerr of Wilmington, her great-grandchildren Brooklynn Ross, Sebastian & Ethan Kerr, Ryan & Cameron Brickett, and Aiden & Allyson Kerr.

Visiting will be held at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave., (Rte. 62), Wilmington on Saturday afternoon from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m., immediately followed by a Funeral Service at 1:00 p.m. Interment will take place in the family lot at Laurel Hill Cemetery, Reading. Memorial donations in Dorothy's name may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
