Obituary

Larry G. Noel, 81, of Wilmington, died Wednesday, February 21, following a brief illness.

Larry was born May 2, 1925, in Chelsea, MA, he was the son of the late Stanley and Mae (Squibb) Noel. He was brought up in Revere, MA and was educated there. Larry joined the U. S. Navy in 1943 during WWII and served the country for six years until 1949. Upon returning from the service, Larry married Dorothy E. Stowe in 1950 and together they built a home in Wilmington, MA, in 1951 where they still reside. Prior to retirement, he worked as a fork lift operator for U. S. Gypsum Company in Charlestown for many years. Larry was very active in the Wilmington Community, he was the first “Santa Claus” at countless town celebrations, Larry was Wilmington's “Good Guy” in 1977, he was currently serving on the Wilmington Recreation Commission a position he has held since 1980, a Little League Coach for over 14 years, he was the concessions manager at the Rotary Park, Larry was very involved in Wilmington Pop Warner for many years, a member of the local V. F. W., , American Legion Post, Tewksbury Wilmington Lodge of Elks, and he was a member of the Independant Order of Oddfellows in Everett. In his spare time he and Dot loved to go square dancing, play bingo, and he loved to play cards. Larry was a very giving person, a “gentle giant” who helped many people in the community and was wonderful with children, he will be missed by many.

Larry is survived by his beloved wife Dorothy E. (Stowe) Noel of Wilmington, he was the devoted father of Bob Noel of Tewksbury, Ray Noel & his wife Gail of Billerica, and the late Karen L. Noel, loving grandfather of Bonnie Noel of Wilmington, and Nick Noel of Tewksbury, dear brother of Raymond Noel of Revere and the late Doris Kelloway.

His funeral services were held Saturday, February 24, at the Wilmington United Methodist Church, 87 Church St., Wilmington, at 10:00 a.m. Interment took place in Wildwood Cemetery. Visiting hours were held at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave., (Rte. 62), Wilmington.
