Lucille F. (Cudworth) Nicholas

Lucille F. (Cudworth) Nicholas, age 87, a long-time resident of Wilmington, passed away at home, surrounded by her loving family on October 18, 2023.

Lucille was born on December 2, 1935, in North Adams, MA; she was the cherished daughter of the late Richard I. and Florence V. (Shand) Cudworth.  Lucille was raised in North Adams and graduated from Drury High School.  Lucille and her family spent the summers at Windsor Lake, fondly known as “Fish Pond” by the locals, where she learned to love swimming.  She was an avid swimmer.

Following graduation, she enrolled in the nursing school at Franklin County Public Hospital School of Nursing in Greenfield, where she earned her nursing certificate.

Lucille started her nursing career in Boston, working at several hospitals.  She took a permanent nursing position at Choate Hospital in Woburn and retired from Symmes Hospital.  Lucille loved her job; she loved caring for her patients and made many friends with her fellow nurses. 

Lucille married her husband, Robert J. Nicholas, Sr., “Bob”, on February 23, 1957.  They lived in Brighton and Dorchester before moving to Wilmington in 1965, where they raised their five children, Robert, Jr., Lusann, Patricia, Pamela, and Richard.  Lucille was a devoted wife and mother; her family was most important to her.  She enjoyed being involved with her children’s school and sporting events and was so proud to become a “Nana” to her seven grandchildren. 

Lucille and Bob loved spending time with their friends; they enjoyed weekly card games at each other’s homes.  In recent years, Lucille loved going to casinos and trying her luck at the slot machines.

In her spare time, Lucille enjoyed spending her time outside feeding the animals in her yard.  She made sure she had special food available for squirrels, skunks, and birds.  Lucille loved animals of all kinds and she took care of several pets throughout her lifetime. 

Lucille was the beloved wife of the late Robert J. Nicholas, “Bob”, devoted father of Lusann Wishart of Londonderry, NH, Patricia Toner & her husband Jim of Billerica, Pamela Harris & her significant other Jim Rohrbacher of Hudson, NH, Richard Nicholas of Wilmington, and the late Robert J. Nicholas, Jr., loving “Nana” of Jason Simmons, Billy Simmons & his wife Lacey, Alyssa Saltzman & her husband Mike, Jaclyn Hogle & her husband John, Carmilla Toner, Robert Nicholas, III, and Rowan Toner & his partner Seamus Cusack, “Great-Nana” of Jenavive, Billy III “Trippy”, Laney, MacKenzie, Oliviana, Joseph, Alexa, and Aria, dear sister of Barbara Jirkovsky of North Adams and the late Richard Shand, loving aunt of Mary Jirkovsky, as well as many other nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Lucille will be private.
