Billy Frank “Okie” McKenzie, of Wilmington, died Tuesday, April 15, 2008, at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington, where he was employed for 20 years, at the age of 78. He was surrounded by his loving family and friends.
Oakie was the devoted and loving husband of Patricia (Miller) McKenzie. He was born on January 4, 1930, in Waurika, Oklahoma, son of the late Floyd and Cleta (Hunter) McKenzie. Oakie grew up in Lebanon, Oklahoma and graduated from Madill High School, and attended Rutgers University. He went on to serve in the United States Army during the time of the Korean War. Oakie and his wife Patricia moved to Wilmington, MA, in 1968 and were members of the St. Elizabeth's Episcopal Church. Before his employment at Lahey Clinic, Oakie worked for the family business, Miller Disposal for many years.
