Mitrano, Salvatore Obituary

Salvatore Mitrano, 86, of Wilmington, passed away on Tuesday, September 2, 2008, surrounded by his family at Kindred Hospital in Peabody, MA.

Born on March 5, 1922, in Gaeta, Italy, he was the son of the late Giro and Maria Mitrano of Somerville, MA. He immigrated to the United States in 1935 through transport of Ellis Island, NY. Once in the United States, he joined the Army and was assigned to the 82nd Airborne. He participated in the Invasion of Normandy during WWII and received a Purple Heart after being wounded in action during the battle.

Mr. Mitrano lived in Wilmington for many years and was a member of Saint Thomas of Villanova Church.

He married his beloved wife Alexandrena (DiCecca) Mitrano, with whom he would have celebrated a 62nd wedding anniversary on September 22nd of this year. He was the devoted father of Linda Guertin & her husband Norman of Leominister, MA, Giro & his wife Debra of Billerica, MA, Salvatore & his wife Kathy of Concord, NH, Richard & his wife Cindy of Andover, MA, Michael of Wilmington, MA, and James & his wife Cheryl of Midland, MI, he was the loving grandfather of Tammy, Terry, the late Giro, Jr., Casey, Lisa, Toni, Paul, Denise, and Lori, and great-grandchildren Tanisha, Devin, Desirae, Ava, Amber, Alex, & Danielle, dear brother of Tina Erbafina & her husband Cosmo of Waltham, Teresa Rosenberger, Nicholas Mitrano & his wife Susan all of Florida, and the late Anne DiCecca.

Family and friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, on Saturday, September 6th at 9:00 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 126 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington at 10:00 a.m. Interment Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington. Visiting hours for Mr. Mitrano will be held on Friday, September 5th from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m.
