Patricia Buonopane Obituary

Patricia M. (Imbriano) Buonopane, age 77, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on January 5, 2024.

Patricia was the beloved wife of the late Paul Buonopane, mother of Michael and Theresa Buonopane of North Andover, and Paul and Laura Buonopane of Andover. She was Nana to Thomas, Sophie, Tyler, Chloe, Fallon, Lucy, and Grace.  Devoted daughter of the late Ralph Imbriano and Helen (Vigliotta) Imbriano.  Sister of the late Ralph Imbriano (Jr) of Reading, and his wife, Nancy (Hall) Imbriano. Loving aunt to many nieces and nephews, and a friend to all who knew her.

Patricia grew up in East Boston, on Trenton Street and was blessed to have her forever best friend, Sandra, next door. The two grew up close enough to pass a sugar bowl through open windows. Patricia’s was blessed with many lifelong friends who became like family to the Buonopanes.  All who knew her, know her by her kind, loving, and generous heart.

At the young age of 13, she met the love of her life, Paul at a church CYO dance. Their love and devotion for each other has been an example for their children, grandchildren and all who knew them. They were married in 1967 and had two sons, Paul, and Michael – the apples of their eyes.

Patricia worked in her younger years as manager of American Travel in Wilmington. When the business abruptly closed one Monday morning, Pat picked up the reigns and in one day opened her own entrepreneurial endeavor which became known as United Travel. Overnight she embraced her role of business owner, and it became a source of great pride and accomplishment for her.  Many happy memories were made on her United Travel bus trips to NYC to see the Radio City Music Hall Rockettes.

Patti embodied the meaning of family. Whether it was spending time with and caring for her parents, hosting Sunday dinners, holidays, parties, or traveling, it was always her greatest joy to do it with her family. Once she became a Nana, she said it brought on a whole new level of love.  She adored her grandchildren and loved creating memories with them, like Nana and Papa’s own annual Halloween Party, complete with bobbing for apples, and mummy wrap games. She was the kind of Nana who got a hotel room in Boston in the middle of February because “the kids love to swim, and it has a pool.”  She would often call her daughters-in-law up to tell them she made soup for dinner and if they wanted to, they could stop by on their way home to pick some up. She was thoughtful and generous beyond measure. Whatever challenges life threw at her, Pat never failed to live it to the fullest and make memories every day with those she loved. As she used to say, “Life is not a dress rehearsal.”  Pat will be sadly missed by all who were blessed to know her.
