Patricia Gilligan Obituary

Patricia A. (Tighe) Gilligan, age 93, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully at home on March 7th, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. 

Patricia was born in Boston and moved to Wilmington in the early 1940’s with her family where she met the love of her life, Joe Gilligan. Patricia and Joe were married for 59 years until his passing in 2013. 

Patricia graduated from Wilmington High School in 1948 and worked as a medical secretary before devoting herself to raising her six children. She was very involved in town issues including the League of Women Voters and lobbying for the addition of tennis courts on Wilmington school playgrounds. She also worked for Jordan Marsh for twelve years, advancing into a management role there. Patricia was an avid tennis player as a young woman and played often with local friends. She had a keen mind and read widely. Patricia was interested in politics from the town to the federal level, and was not shy about sharing her strong opinions on the political landscape.

Patricia was the beloved wife of the late James J. “Joe” Gilligan.  She was the devoted mother of Kathleen Gilligan and her husband Tom Angelo of Oakland, CA, Theresa D'Arcangelo and her husband Joseph of Reading, MA, Eileen Cantone and her husband David of Plaistow, NH, James D. Gilligan and his wife Kathy of Plymouth, NH, Shannon Gilligan of North Andover, MA, and the late Timothy Gilligan, survived by his wife Karen of Hudson, NH. Loving "Grammy" of James D'Arcangelo and his wife Patricia, John D'Arcangelo, Dominic, Vincent, and Michael Cantone, Tabitha Gilligan, Patrick, Liam, Bridget, and Declan Gilligan, and great-“Grammy” of Anthony Joseph D'Arcangelo. Patricia is also survived by many in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends. 

At Patricia’s request, all funeral services will be private.
