Peterson, Charles Obituary

Charles E. Peterson, “Charlie”, age 86, of Wilmington, died Sunday, February 8, 2009, at the E. N. Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford following a lengthy illness.

Charlie was the beloved husband of Joy (Galbraith) Peterson, with whom he would have celebrated 60 years of marriage this coming April.

Born on May 24, 1922, in Boston, MA, Charlie was the son of the late Philip G. & Mildred (Lombard) Peterson. Charlie grew up in Boston and Vermont. He attended Wentworth Institute in Boston to learn his trade and then taught there for a year. Charlie enlisted in the United States Navy during WWII and served the country honorably for 12 years, he was discharged in October of 1953.

Charlie married Joy Galbraith on April 2, 1949, and they resided in Florida, Boston, Allston, and Vermont, settling in Wilmington in 1961. Prior to retiring, Charles worked at the Millipore Company in Bedford, MA, for over 17 years. In his spare time, Charles enjoyed traveling on his motorcycles and deer hunting.

Charlie is survived by his beloved wife Joy (Galbraith) Peterson of Wilmington, he was the dear brother of Carl Peterson of Hyde Park, and the late Robert & Frederick Peterson, loving uncle of Phil Peterson of Derry, NH, Jack Peterson, Elaine Peterson, & Freddie Peterson all of Lynn, Carl Peterson of Dover, NH, Charlie Peterson of Hyde Park, and the late Bob Peterson.

Charlie's Family will be receiving people at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, on Friday, February 13th from 2-6 p.m. with a Funeral Service to be held at 5:00 p.m.

Memorial donations in Charles' name may be made to V.A. Voluntary Service, attn: Inpatient Rest & Relaxation Fund, V. A. Medical Center, 200 Springs Road, Bedford, MA 01730.
