Richard Calabro, Sr. Obituary

Richard P. Calabro, Sr., age 84, a long-time resident of Wilmington, passed away peacefully on November 18, 2022.

Richard was born on November 20, 1937, in Waltham, MA; he was the cherished son of the late Joseph and Rose (LaSpada) Calabro.  Richard was raised in Watertown and graduated from Brighton High School.

Following graduation, Richard enlisted in the United States Army on October 28, 1957.  He served overseas for two years before being honorably discharged on October 23, 1959.  Richard returned home to his family.

Richard met his wife Dorothy C. (Grinley) Calabro, and they were married on May 9, 1965.  They moved to Wilmington, where they raised their two children, Richard, Jr., and Kimberly.

Richard worked at Maynard Supply Company for many years; he loved his job and made many friendships with his co-workers and customers.  Richard worked at the counter and looked forward to waiting on his "regulars."  He also worked in the shipping/receiving department for several years.  Richard also worked for the Pine Tree Bakery in Waltham for several years delivering bread to all the local shops.

Richard was an avid fan of the New England sports teams; it didn’t matter which sport, he loved watching the games on T.V. with his family and friends.  He also enjoyed his scratch tickets and playing the lottery.  Richard started a family tradition of taking his daughter and grandson to the racetrack at Rockingham Park.  They had many wonderful memories together at the racetrack.

Richard enjoyed hanging out at the 99 Restaurant in West Concord which he could walk to from his house. He was a frequent customer and made some good friends there, while enjoying a Vodka Collins.

Richard will be remembered as a loving Dad and “Teep”; he had a very special bond with his only grandchild, Shawn.  He will also be remembered for his love of Wendy’s, especially his junior bacon cheeseburgers.

Richard was the beloved husband of the late Dorothy C. (Grinley) Calabro, devoted father of Richard P. Calabro, Jr. of Westford, and Kimberly Calabro & her boyfriend Gordon MacDonald of Londonderry, NH, loving “Teep” of Shawn Calabro, cherished son of the late Joseph and Rose (LaSpada) Calabro, dear brother of Vincent Calabro & his wife Peggy of San Antonio, TX, the late Joseph Calabro, Robert “Beep” Calabro, Peter Calabro, and Constance Smith.  Richard is also survived by his sister-in-law, Ann Calabro of Newton, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
