Robert J. Cassello, "Bob", age 73, of Methuen, MA, formerly a long-time resident of Wilmington, MA, passed away suddenly on January 18, 2023, at the Holy Family Hospital in Methuen.
Bob was born on June 9, 1949, in Stoneham, MA; he was the beloved son of the late Mary (Duggleby) West and the late Mark West, Sr. Bob was raised and educated in Charlestown before the family moved to Wilmington in 1959. He had a passion for sports and played through his school years and well into adulthood. Bob was named the Merrimack Valley All Star Basketball Player in 1967 while playing for the Wilmington Wildcats Basketball Team; he went on to graduate from Wilmington High School with the Class of 1967.
Bob worked hard throughout his life; for many years he was employed as a salesman for the Walpole Woodworker's Fence Company, Reliable Fence Company and finally for Northeastern Fence Company. Bob's endearing personality and great customer service skills made him quite successful throughout the years.
In his spare time, Bob, enjoyed playing on several men's softball and basketball teams throughout the years; he made many life-long friends with his teammates. He also looked forward to watching sports, especially his New York Teams, and travelled to many games in New York.
Bob enjoyed the sun, sand, great weather, beautiful beaches and fun times with friends and family as he wintered in Miami for many years.
Bob will be fondly remembered to his great personality, his love of "big band" music and the "Rat Pack" crooners; Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin being his favorite. He enjoyed life and cherished the great times he spent with his family and friends who will miss him.
Bob is survived by his dear brothers George Cassello and his wife Carol of Sandwich, MA, Mark West, Jr. and his wife Connie of Salem, NH and Frank West and his wife Karen of Wilmington, MA. He was the beloved uncle of George Cassello, Jr., Darlene Cassello-Phillips and her husband Gary Phillips, Mark West, Colleen West and Frank West, Jr., as well as his extended family and many friends.
Family and friends will gather for Visitation at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, MA, on Saturday, January 28th from 9:15-10:15 a.m. followed by a Service to Celebrate Bob's life at 10:15 a.m. Interment will take place in Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington, MA.
