Maria “Grace” (Danna) Rosa, age 95, of Wilmington, formerly of Woburn, died Saturday, March 22, 2008, at home surrounded by her family.
Grace, as she was known to her family and friends, was born on May 14, 1912, in Boston, MA. She was the daughter of the late Pasquale and Maria Grace (Seminatore) Danna. Grace grew up in Woburn and attended school there. She worked at Schrafft's Candy Company in Charlestown where she met her husband Michael; they married and moved to Wilmington in 1947. Prior to retirement, Grace was employed in the Food Service Industry at Raytheon for many years. Grace was very devoted to her family and her community; she volunteered her whole life for different clubs and organizations. She was a scout mother for troop #54, she volunteered with the Brownies in the 1950’s, in the 1960’s she and her husband established a group for teenagers in West Wilmington and they held Christmas Parties for orphaned children for many years. She was a coordinator for the food service program at Deming Way for five years, and in the last five years she made over 600 hats for the homeless.
Grace was the beloved wife of the late Michael Rosa, who she was married to for 32 years prior to his passing in 1971, she was the devoted mother of Michael P. Rosa & his wife Juanita Kim of Freedom, NH, William D. Rosa & his wife Lori Sullivan of Temple, ME, Anita G. Gleason & her husband Bud of Wilmington, Janice M. Rosa of Winslow, ME, and the late Joseph Rosa, loving grandmother of Cynthia, Wendy, and Kevin Rosa, Nancy Dolan, Mark and Michael Rosa, Michael, Rebecca, James Gleason and the late Shelley Gleason, 9 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren, sister of Elinor Scalese of Belmont, Madeline Carradonna of Haverhill, and the late Vincenzo, Salvatore, Charles and Benjamin Danna, Anna Orlando, Rose DeVito, and Josephine Borselli, Grace is also survived by many nieces & nephews.
Her visiting hours took place at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington on Wednesday, March 26th from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Thomas Church, 126 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington at 1:00 p.m. Interment took place in the family lot at Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington.
