Shirley DelRossi Obituary

Shirley W. DelRossi (Carnes), age 94, formerly a long-time resident of Wilmington, MA, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2024, with her family at her side.

Shirley was born in Everett, MA, on May 29, 1929; she was the cherished daughter of the late Chester and Leonora (Nickerson) Carnes.  Shirley was raised and educated in Wilmington, MA, and a graduate of Wilmington High School.  Shirley always had an endearing personality and a quick wit; she was a wonderful daughter and sister and she made many life-long friends.

Shirley married her "sweetheart" Nicholas DelRossi on March 12, 1950;  the couple settled close to family in Wilmington, they raised three wonderful children and shared more than 56 great years together before Nick's untimely passing in 2006.  Shirley was a very devoted wife and mother; she showered her family with unconditional love and treasured her role as a grandmother and great-grandmother.  Shirley was eager to attend countless school and sporting events for her family; she was always there to "root them on" and beamed with pride as she spoke of them and their many accomplishments. Shirley looked forward to family vacations and holidays or any event that brought "her gang" together; she loved to be surrounded by her family, extended family and friends.

Shirley was very active throughout her life; she loved to go line dancing, play bingo, she belonged to a poker group, and she enjoyed heading to the casinos just to "try her luck".  Shirley joined several Senior Centers throughout the years where she made many friends and joined in on their countless activities.

Prior to retiring, Shirley worked at Sweetheart Plastics in Wilmington, MA; she held several positions over her time there but was most active as an employee rep. in the Human Resources Department.  Shirley could always be counted on to fix a problem, lend a hand or an ear to her fellow co-workers.  She was always kind and courteous towards everyone and she was truly an asset to the company.

Following retirement, Shirley and Nick, enjoyed travelling all over Europe where they experienced new cultures and met new people.  The couple also looked forward to their trips to Las Vegas with family and friends where they loved the night life, shows, and fast paced action at the casinos.  They were a fun couple to be around and experience new adventures.

Shirley will be fondly remembered as a wonderful lady, with a beautiful smile, great personality, and a huge heart.  She would do anything to help her family and friends whom she adored.  Shirley was greatly loved by all who knew her and she will forever live on in their hearts.

Shirley was the beloved wife of the late Nicholas DelRossi, devoted mother of Ronald DelRossi and wife Kathy of Atkinson, NH, Roberta "Bobbi" Burke and husband Sean of Townsend, MA, and Kevin DelRossi and wife Mary of Wakefield, MA.  She was the loving "Gram" of Michelle and Kenny Palmer, Theresa and Michael Bordonaro, Jeff and Tamara DelRossi, Ashley and Tim Kelley, Jami and Chris Cavanaugh, Caitlin and Kyle Marcos, Sean Patrick Burke, Christen and Matthew Pegoraro, Matthew and Brooke DelRossi, Jessica DelRossi, and great-grandchildren Jaclyn, Marissa, Joseph, Ryan, Kash, Mila, Braxton, Addy, TJ, Jacob, Colton, Porter, Crew, Camilla, Roma, and Sonny.  Dear sister of Edie Harden and her late husband Phil of Sebago, ME, Louise Washburn and husband Paul formerly of Orleans, MA,  the late Roger Carnes and his late wife Thyra.  Shirley is also survived by her brother-in-law Jack Arsenault of Reading, sister-in-law of Evelyn DelRossi of California, as well as her nieces, and  nephews, and their families.
