Helena F. (Hogan) Spinney, also lovingly known to her family as “Sis” or “Aunt Sis”, age 81, of Wilmington, died Thursday, January 1, 2009, at the Winchester Hospital following a brief illness.
Born in Boston, MA, on May 9, 1927, Sis was the daughter of the late James & Helena (Hilton) Hogan. Helena grew up in West Roxbury and was educated in Boston. In her earlier years Helena was employed as a hairdresser. She and her husband George moved to Wilmington in 1955 and she resided there until her death. Helena was a member of the Wilmington Senior Center. In her spare time Helena loved to play the piano and sing.
Helena was the beloved wife of the late George F. Spinney for 52 years until his death in 2003. She was the devoted mother of James G. “Bud” Spinney of Wilmington, Grandmother of Kelly A., Brian D., & Daniel P. Spinney all of Pelham, NH, sister of Joseph Hogan & his wife Maxine of California, and the late Rita Flanagan, James “Buddy” Hogan, & Marjorie Hogan, sister-in-law of Hugh Flanagan of Vermont, Helena is also survived by many nieces & nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Sunday, January 4th at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, from 3-5 p.m.
