Theresa Bourque Obituary

Theresa M. Bourque (Bourgeois), age 81, resident of Wilmington, MA and formerly a long-time resident of Tewksbury, MA, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2024, at CareOne at Wilmington, with her children at her side.

Theresa was born in Grande-Digue, New Brunswick, on June 24, 1942; she was the daughter of the late Alderic and Philomene (Poirier) Bourgeois.  Theresa was raised and educated in Grande-Digue, then spent two years with the Congregation of the Religieuses de Notre Dame du Sacre Coeur contemplating her life as a nun.  She chose to leave the novitiate prior to her final vows, however, and later attended a secretarial course at Oulton’s Business College in Moncton, New Brunswick.

In 1964, Theresa moved to Massachusetts, and it was here that she was introduced to her husband, Leonard (Lenny) Bourque, by family friends.  They maintained a long-distance romance while Lenny served overseas with the US Navy and married on October 7, 1967, in Lynn, MA.  The couple settled in Tewksbury in 1973 where they raised two wonderful children and shared nearly 46 years together before Lenny’s passing in 2013.

Theresa was a devoted wife and mother; she was selfless, showered her family with unconditional love and treasured her role as a grandmother.  Theresa attended countless school events, sports games and dance recitals for her children and then her grandchildren; she was always there to "root them on" and beamed with pride as she spoke of them and their many accomplishments. Theresa also remained dedicated to her faith and was a long-time parishioner of St. Williams Church in Tewksbury before she moved to Wilmington, including serving as a Eucharistic Minister.

Prior to retiring, Theresa worked as an accounting clerk at various local companies but mostly liked being helpful and doting on her co-workers.  Following retirement, Theresa enjoyed travelling to Canada for family reunions, especially their Christmas in July celebrations. She also loved word puzzles, listening to music, watching the Game Show Network, crocheting, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Theresa will be fondly remembered as a sweet lady with a huge heart.  She was especially thoughtful and would do anything to help her family and friends whom she adored.  Theresa was greatly loved by all who knew her, and she will forever live on in their hearts.

Theresa was the beloved wife of the late Leonard Bourque, devoted mother of Wayne Bourque and his wife Vanessa of Topsham, Maine, and Suzanne Grecco and her husband Charles of Wilmington, MA.  She was the loving "Grammy" of Christopher and Thomas Grecco, Lauren, Olivia and the late Julia Bourque, and bonus granddaughters Lila and Samantha Bell.  Dear sister of Helene D’Eon and her husband Richard of Waltham, MA, the late Donald Bourgeois and his wife Claudette, Edmond Bourgeois and his wife Emilie, and the late Paul Bourgeois and his wife Jeanne, all of Grande-Digue, NB, Gisele Benson and her late husband Thomas of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Alphonse Bourgeois and his wife Camilla of Dieppe, NB, and Denise Leger and her husband Jacques of Grande-Digue.  Theresa is also survived by her sisters-in-law Georgina Pitman and her husband Wayne of Oshawa, Ontario, Marcella Babin of Sluice Point, Nova Scotia, and Patricia Scoville and her husband Randy of Hubbard’s Point, Nova Scotia, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral mass taking place in St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 126 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington, MA on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. In honor of Theresa’s wishes there will be no visitation hours.
