Catherine E. "Betty" (Hennessy) Wandell, of Wilmington, died Tuesday, November 20, 2007, at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston; she was 77. Betty was born October 9, 1930, in Somerville, daughter of the late William C. And Nora Mae (Reidy) Hennessy. She grew up in Charlestown, and moved to Wilmington in 1947. She graduated from Charlestown High School, Class of 1948.
Following High School, Betty worked for the J. W. Greers Company in Wilmington. On July 18, 1954, she married Daniel C. Wandell, Sr., and together they started a family of seven. This became Betty's life, she was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She got involved with every aspect of her children's lives, Betty was active in the Wilmington Schools, PAC, she was the Past President of the Parent Guild of Our Lady of Nazareth School, she was involved in their many bazaars and fund raisers by running the kitchen. Betty was an active member of St. Thomas Church and taught CCD for many years. She was always in attendance at the many sporting events of her children and grandchildren and she was their biggest fan. In her spare time, Betty loved to do crafts, go to bingo, and watch the Red Sox; she loved her Red Sox and she never missed a game.
Betty is survived by her husband of 53 years Retired Fire Chief Daniel C. Wandell, Sr. She was the devoted mother of Kim McDonough-Gawron & her husband Chris of Hollis, ME, Daniel C. Wandell, Jr., of Wilmington, Joan Wandell of Lowell, Susan Landry & her husband William of Billerica, Nancy Brothers & her husband of Pat of Tewksbury, Kathy Mireault & her husband Erik of Lowell, and Michael Wandell & his wife Bridget of Dracut, loving grandmother of 19 grandchildren & 2 great-grandchildren, dear sister of Theresa Briggs of Wilmington, and the late Helen Sordillo, Gene, Bill, & Joe Hennessy.
Visiting hours were at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington on Friday, November 23rd . Her Funeral Mass was celebrated by Fr. Philip Earley at St. Thomas Church, 126 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington, on Saturday, November 24th. Interment took place in the family lot at Wildwood Cemetery.
