William P. (Bill) Sousa, age 85 yrs old of Wilmington died Sunday, June 17th, 2007 at the Lahey Clinic Burlington, MA of complications due to emphysema.
He was born in Cambridge, MA on March 23, 1922. He was the fourth of five sons of Frank and Mary Sousa. All five brothers enlisted in the Armed Forces and served honorably during World War II. Bill enlisted in the U.S. Navy after Pearl Harbor and was honorably discharged from the service in 1945. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled Veteran’s of America. He worked as a tractor trailer driver and was a proud member of the AFL- CIO Local 25 Teamsters’ Union. Over the years he loved playing the piano and the keyboard. In retirement he enjoyed working with his hands doing various construction projects and hand crafting replicas of military aircraft. Bill was proud of his Irish and Portuguese heritage and of his family. He was a resident of Wilmington for 47 years. Bill was communicant of St. Thomas Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Madeline C. (Glynn) and son Paul Sousa, as well as his brothers Joseph, Francis and Robert Sousa.
He is survived by his son William Sousa and wife Carolyn of Merrimack, NH, son James Sousa of Trinidad, California and son David Sousa and wife Laura of Andover, MA. His grandchildren Morgan, Brendan, Hilary, Johanna, Julie, Natalie, Andrew, and Gavin, great grandchildren Oliver and Keenan, and his brother John Sousa of Seabrook, NH.
His Funeral will be held from the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave., (Rte. 62),Wilmington, on Friday, June 22, at 10:30 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Thomas Church at 11:30 a.m. Interment Wildwood Cemetery. Visiting hours on Thursday, June 21, from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m.
