Winthrop P. Murphy Obituary

Winthrop P. Murphy, "Win", age 81, of Wilmington, formerly of Arlington, passed away peacefully on October 18, 2023 surrounded by his loving family.

Win was the beloved husband of the late Marion (Marotta) Murphy, devoted father of Marianne Harris and her husband Jeffrey Harris of Salem N.H., Wendy Tassone and her husband Vincent Tassone of Wilmington, MA and the loving “Grandpa” of Marianna McGuire and her husband Colin McGuire, Ryan, Joey and Brittany, cherished son the late Edna (Waldron) and Joseph James Murphy. He is predeceased  by his parents Joseph and Edna (Waldron) Murphy, his brothers Andre (Ray) Murphy, Joseph Murphy, Jr., and sister Diane Land. He was the adoring uncle of many nieces and nephews and leaves behind many loving friends and extended family.

Win was a former Hot Rod owner and a proud member of many years of the Dominator’s Hot Rod Club with his brother Ray.  He worked as a painter and plasterer by trade for many years. What Win most enjoyed was spending time with his beloved wife Marion. Win and Marion loved to host many parties at their home with all of their friends and friends children. This is when Win would pull out the electric guitar and sing. He was the jokester of all his friends and even one time shaved off half his mustache when he went out with his wife and friends to see who would notice first.

Win was also a devoted father to his daughters Marianne and Wendy and their biggest cheerleader in life. You would often catch him on the sidelines of their sporting events cheering louder than the coach. He made sure to never miss a game.  He loved the holiday’s and cooking for them. His favorite holiday though was Halloween, he would dress up in a scary costume and go all out decorating the house. His second favorite holiday would be Christmas where he and his wife Marion made sure their children had all the latest toys and Win would stay up late putting everything together and often heard by his children playing with the toys before Christmas morning.

After losing the love of his life Marion, Win went to live between both of his children. He would stay two weeks at a time at each house and never strayed from that schedule. All the grandchildren loved having “Grandpa” staying at the house and he made sure to spoil them. If you were looking for “Win” in the morning you would find him at his favorite spot Dunkin’s getting his standard order of a small black coffee and a sausage egg & cheese on an English muffin. He made many friends there. After Dunk’s Win would stop to get his scratch cards, and would often win, he sure had the luck of the Irish. Win is now re-united with his one true love Marion, whom he missed dearly.
